What is Adalat (Nifedipine) used for?

Adalat (Nifedipine) is given as a treatment to prevent chest pain such as angina, and hypertension. It belongs to a group of medications called calcium channel blockers, which help the muscles of the blood vessels and heart to relax, while also increasing the oxygen supply to the heart.

How should I use Adalat (Nifedipine)?

Adalat (Nifedipine) tablets are taken orally. Follow the instructions of your physician. Some patients may be directed to take this medication 3 times per day, with or without food. It is common for patients to be given a low dose to begin with, which may then be increased by the prescribing physician, sometimes once every 1 to 2 weeks. This medication will not cure the symptoms, it will only control them. Therefore, you should continue taking it unless your physician tells you otherwise.

What are the side effects of Adalat (Nifedipine)?

You may notice some side effects when taking Adalat (Nifedipine), such as:

  • A decrease in sexual ability
  • Insomnia
  • Cramps in the legs
  • Heartburn
  • Increased urination

If any of these side effects worsen, or if other serious side effects occur, such as an irregular heartbeat or fainting, you should consult your physician immediately.

Please Note

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Adalat (Nifedipine). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain patients, it is essential you always inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if you are taking any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.

Immediately seek emergency medical care if you have any allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallowing.
