What is Apo-Cimetidine (Cimetidine) used for?

Apo-Cimetidine (Cimetidine) is a type of drug known as a histamine receptor antagonist, which works by reducing the amount of stomach acid produced. It is used to treat conditions affecting the throat and stomach which are caused by excessive stomach acid, such as erosive esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions. By reducing excess stomach acid, this drug helps to provide relief from symptoms such as heartburn, stomach pain, while also preventing damage to the digestive system.

How should I use Apo-Cimetidine (Cimetidine)?

The exact dosage for Apo-Cimetidine (Cimetidine) varies, depending on the condition being treated. You may be told to take it once per day, just before going to bed, or else 2 to 4 times per day, with meals and just before you go to bed. Patients taking it as needed to relieve heartburn will sometimes be told to take it 1 to 2 times per day, 30 minutes before eating. If you are taking it as needed to relieve heartburn, you should not take it for more than 2 weeks, unless told to do so by your physician.
