What is Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide) used for?

Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide) is used in the treatment of high blood pressure. This can help to prevent heart attacks, strokes and kidney problems. This medication is a type of diuretic, or water pill, which causes the body to produce more water, thereby helping the body to get rid of extra water and salt. It can also reduce excess fluid in the body (edema), occurring as a result of heart failure or other diseases. This can help to relieve symptoms such as inflammation of the feet or breathlessness.

How should I use Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide)?

Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide) tablets should be taken by mouth, usually once per day in the morning with or without eating. Patients should note that it is best to avoid taking this medication within 4 hours of bedtime, so as to prevent having to get up during the night to urinate. The exact dosage required is based on each individual's medical condition and response to treatment. You should never exceed the dosage prescribed to you.

What are the side effects of Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide)?

Patients may experience side effects while taking Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide), such as:

  • Dizziness or headache
  • Stomach upset

  • Constipation
  • Blurred vision

You should consult your physician if these side effects persist or worsen, or if you notice other more serious side effects such as dryness in the mouth, feelings of weakness or lightheadedness, a rapid uneven heartbeat, muscular pain, stomach pain or yellowing of the eyes or skin.
