What is Arthrexin (Indomethacin) used for?

Arthrexin (Indomethacin) is a type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID, which is used to provide relief from symptoms of arthritis, such as inflammation, pain and stiffness of the joints. Other conditions treated by this drug include ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, bursitis, high blood calcium levels and low blood pressure.

How should I use Arthrexin (Indomethacin)?

Arthrexin (Indomethacin) comes in the form of suppositories, which are inserted rectally, usually 2 to 4 times per day or as directed by your physician. To use the suppositories, remove it from the wrapper and dip the tip of the suppository in water to lubricate it. You may then lie down on your left side, and lift your right knee up to your chest (left handed patients should lie on their right side and raise their left knee to the chest). You should then insert a suppository into the rectum using your finger. Insert it roughly 1 inch into the rectum and hold it there for a short while. After approximately 15 minutes you may stand up. Remember to thoroughly wash your hands after use, and you should also try not to have a bowel movement for at least 1 hour after inserting the suppository.

What are the side effects of Arthrexin (Indomethacin)?

Side effects of Arthrexin (Indomethacin) include:

• Vomiting
• Constipation
• Rectal irritation
• Feeling the need to empty the bowel
• A ringing noise in the ears

This medication may also cause other more serious side effects. Consult your physician immediately if you notice sudden weight gain, changes in vision, fatigue or any other side effects.
