What is Bonjela Teething Gel (Choline Salicylate) used for?

Bonjela Teething Gel (Choline Salicylate) is used to provide relief from pain occurring as a result of mouth ulcers, denture irritation, sore spots from braces and cold sores. It contains the active ingredient choline salicylate, which is a type of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting the action of a substance in the body known as cyclo-oxygenase, thereby helping to relieve inflammation and pain where it is applied. Although this gel has been used for teething pain in infants, many experts have advised that it should not be used on children under 16.

How should I use Bonjela Teething Gel (Choline Salicylate)?

Bonjela Teething Gel (Choline Salicylate) should be gently rubbed directly into the area where the pain occurs. You should ensure that your hands and fingers are clean before applying the gel. Patients should use approximately half an inch of the gel. If you are using this gel to treat denture irritation, you should wait for 30 minutes after applying the gel before replacing the dentures. In order to avoid gum irritation, you should not apply the gel directly to the dentures.

What are the side effects of Bonjela Teething Gel (Choline Salicylate)?

Some patients using Bonjela Teething Gel (Choline Salicylate) have noticed ulceration at the application site. However, this is more likely to happen with excessive use. Discuss the risk of side effects with your physician before using this medication.
