What is Elidel (Pimecrolimus) used for?

Elide (Pimecrolimus) is a cream used as a treatment for eczema symptoms. It is effective in treating the dryness, itchiness, rashes and other symptoms caused by eczema. This cream is normally prescribed to treat severe eczema when other medications have not proven to be effective. It belongs to a class of drugs known as topical calcineurin inhibitors, which prevent the immune system from producing the substances that cause eczema.

How should I use Elidel (Pimecrolimus)?

Elidel (Pimecrolimus) is a topical cream which should be applied directly to the skin. If you are unsure how to apply it, you should follow the instructions provided to you by your physician. Your physician may tell you to apply it twice per day. Treatment may be required for up to 6 weeks. You should not apply more or less than the amount prescribed by your physician.
