What is Flagyl (Metronidazole) used for?

Flagyl (Metronidazole) is an antibiotic, used to treat various bacterial infections occurring in the body, such as those affecting the vagina, skin, stomach, respiratory tract and joints. However, it should not be used to treat a vaginal yeast infection, as it is not effective in treating this type of infection. It is also ineffective in treating viral infections.

How should I use Flagyl (Metronidazole)?

Flagyl (Metronidazole) tablets should be taken orally. The dosage required varies, depending on the condition being treated. Patients treating dracunculiasis may be told to take 250mg every 8 hours, with treatment lasting for 10 days. If you are treating Pseudomembranous Colitis, you may be told to take 250mg to 500mg 3 to 4 times per day, for 1 to 2 weeks. As the dosage varies for each condition being treated, patients must consult their physician so that the correct dosage can be prescribed.

What are the side effects of Flagyl (Metronidazole)?

Flagyl (Metronidazole) may cause:
