What is Glucobay (Acarbose) used for?

Glucobay (Acarbose) is given to patients suffering from type 2 diabetes as a treatment. This drug may also be used with other medications or insulin. It works by inhibiting the action of certain chemicals in the body that digest food and release sugar into the blood. By slowing down the body's digestion, this drug helps to prevent an increase in blood sugar after meals.

How should I use Glucobay (Acarbose)?

Patients taking Glucobay (Acarbose) tablets should take one tablet with main meals. It is important to take the tablet with the first bites of food, right at the start of the meal. You may be directed to take it 3 times per day. Patients must consult their physician before taking this medication in order to be advised on the exact dosage required. You should never discontinue taking this medication unless you have been told to do so by your physician.

Please Note

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Glucobay (Acarbose). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.
