What is Hyzaar (Losartan Potassium/Hydrochlorothiazide) used for?

Hyzaar (Losartan Potassium/Hydrochlorothiazide) is a combination of two active ingredients which is used to treat heart failure, high blood pressure and to lower the risk of a stroke in patients with certain heart conditions. The active ingredient Losartan is a type of angiotensin receptor blocker, which relaxes blood vessels and eases blood flow. Hydrochlorothiazide is a type of diuretic (water pill) that causes the body to create more urine, ridding the body of excess salt and water in the process.

How should I use Hyzaar (Losartan Potassium/Hydrochlorothiazide)?

Patients who are taking Hyzaar (Losartan Potassium/Hydrochlorothiazide) must follow all instructions provided to them by their physician. This drug is usually taken once per day. As it may cause more frequent urination, you are advised to take it early, and to avoid taking it within 4 hours of going to bed.
