Lupizol (Lansoprazole) is given to patients to treat and prevent ulcers of the stomach and intestine, erosive espohagitis and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (excess acid production by the stomach). It can also treat gastroesophageal reflux disease by allowing the esophagus to heal, thereby preventing any more damage to the esophagus. Patients suffering from frequent acid indigestion may be given this drug to prevent this from occurring. The active ingredient in this medication belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors, which work by reducing the stomach's production of acid.
