What is Pantoprazole (Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate) used for?

Pantoprazole (Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate) is prescribed as a treatment for certain problems affecting the stomach and esophagus. It may also be used to help treat or prevent ulcers. Conditions it is used to treat include erosive esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (a condition in which too much acid is produced by the stomach), gastroesophageal reflux disease and other related conditions. This drug belongs to a class of medications known as proton-pump inhibitors, which work by reducing the amount of acid that the stomach produces.

How should I use Pantoprazole (Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate)?

If you have been prescribed Pantoprazole (Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate) by your physician, make sure that you fully understand the instructions provided to you by your physician. Only take the amount prescribed to you. You may be told by your physician to take it 1 to 2 times per day. This medication may be taken with or without food.

This drug increases the risk of a condition known as Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
