What is Premia Continuous (Conjugated Oestrogens/Medroxyprogesterone Acetate) used for?

Premia Continuous (Conjugated Oestrogens/Medroxyprogesterone Acetate) is used for hormone replacement therapy to treat symptoms of the menopause, such as hot flushes and vaginal discomfort. It may also be used to help prevent osteoporosis. It contains two active ingredients, conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone acetate, which are similar to the hormones produced by the body before the menopause, and can help to control menopausal symptoms.

How should I use Premia Continuous (Conjugated Oestrogens/Medroxyprogesterone Acetate)?

Premia Continuous (Conjugated Oestrogens/Medroxyprogesterone Acetate) tablets should be taken exactly as prescribed by your physician. You may be told to start it after your last period, or if you don't have regular periods, you may be told to start taking it on a Monday. Treatment with this medication requires a 28 day cycle, with one tablet being taken per day. If you miss a dose, do not take a double dose. However, if you notice that you have missed your dose within 12 hours of the time when you normally take it, you may take the tablet that you missed. If you notice that you missed a dose more than 12 hours since you were supposed to take it, skip that dose and continue treatment as you normally would.

What are the side effects of Premia Continuous (Conjugated Oestrogens/Medroxyprogesterone Acetate)?

Premia Continuous (Conjugated Oestrogens/Medroxyprogesterone Acetate) may cause:

  • Bloating, stomach pain, nausea or vomiting
  • Pain in the breasts or breast tenderness
  • Acne, an increased growth of hair or loss of hair
  • Changes in appetite or weight
  • Itching or irritation of the vagina, decreases sex drive

If these side effects persist or worsen, you should immediately inform your physician. Other more severe side effects may also occur. You should immediately seek medical attention if you notice weakness, swelling of the feet or ankles, problems with memory or any other side effects not mentioned here.
