What is Prexaron (Citicoline) used for?

Prexaron (Citicoline) is a naturally occurring chemical in the body, which is used as a supplement to help treat dementia, Alzheimer's disease, loss of memory, glaucoma and cerebrovascular diseases. This drug was developed in Japan to treat patients who have suffered from a stroke. In many countries in Europe, it is commonly prescribed to treat problems with thinking caused by poor circulation in the brain.

How should I use Prexaron (Citicoline)?

Prexaron (Citicoline) tablets should be taken by mouth. You should discuss the dosage requirements with your physician before you take this medication. Some patients treating memory loss and thinking ability caused by old age are told to take 1000mg to 2000mg per day. If you are treating cerebrovascular disease, you may be told to take 600mg per day. Treatment of an ischemic stroke may require 500mg to 2000mg per day, usually starting within 24 hours of a stroke occurring. However, you should only take the dose prescribed by your physician.
