What is Serenace (Haloperidol) used for?

Serenace (Haloperidol) is a type of antipsychotic medication that is used in the treatment of certain mental disorders such as schizophrenia and Tourette's syndrome. This drug may help to reduce aggression, hallucinations and other negative thoughts and actions in patients suffering from schizophrenia. It is also effective in helping to control speech and motor tics caused by Tourette's syndrome. This drug works by helping to reduce abnormal activity in the brain. Apart from the above mentioned usages, this drug may also be used to treat severe behavioral problems in children and to prevent nausea occurring as a result of cancer treatment.

How should I use Serenace (Haloperidol)?

Serenace (Haloperidol) tablets should be taken orally. Adult patients are sometimes directed to take one tablet 2 to 3 times per day. However, the exact dosage and strength of tablet prescribed varies depending on the severity of the condition being treated. It is essential that patients consult their physician before taking this medication so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. Your physician may start you out on a low dosage and gradually raise your dosage. While undergoing treatment, it is common for physicians to periodically adjust the patient's dosage depending on the response to treatment. It is important not to abruptly discontinue taking this medication once you have started taking it, as doing so may cause withdrawal symptoms. You should instead consult your physician as your dosage may need to be gradually decreased.

What are the side effects of Serenace (Haloperidol)?

Some side effects which may occur as a result of taking Serenace (Haloperidol) include:

  • Sleepiness or spinning sensation

  • Irregular menstrual periods

Please Note

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Serenace (Haloperidol). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.
