What is Sinemet CR (Carbidopa / Levodopa) used for?

Sinemet CR (Carbidopa / Levodopa) is a combination of two drugs, used to treat Parkinson's symptoms. This drug can treat the muscle stiffness, uncontrollable shaking, spasms, movement difficulties and other symptoms associated with this disease. It is also used to treat Parkinson's disease like symptoms caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. This drug contains levodopa, which belongs to a class of medications known as central nervous system agents. It is believed that Parkinson's disease symptoms may be caused by a low level of dopamine in the brain. Levodopa is converted into dopamine in the brain. This may help to relieve Parkinson's disease symptoms. The other active ingredient, Cardiopa works by helping to prevent levodopa from being broken down before it reaches the brain.
