What is Singulair (Montelukast Sodium) used for?

Singulair (Montelukast Sodium) is used to treat the symptoms of asthma, such as wheezing and breathlessness, and to decrease the occurrence of asthma attacks. This drug is also used in the prevention of exercise induced bronchospasms. Apart from being used to treat asthma, it is also used to treat symptoms of hay fever and allergic rhinitis. It works by helping to block natural substances in the body, known as leukotrienes, which can cause asthma and other allergies, and this in turn helps to reduce swelling and make breathing easier.

How should I use Singulair (Montelukast Sodium)?

Singulair (Montelukast Sodium) tablets should be taken orally. Patients using this drug to treat asthma should take one dose in the evening. For those using it to prevent breathing difficulties caused by exercise, it should be taken 2 hours prior to exercise. To treat allergic rhinitis, you may take this drug at any time of the day. Patients using this drug regularly should never take an extra dose before doing exercise. These dosage guidelines may not be suitable for each patient. What are the side effects of Singulair (Montelukast Sodium)?
