What is Tibofem (Tibolone) used for?

Tibofem (Tibolone) is a synthesized steroid used for hormone replacement therapy. It is broken down in the body into three separate compounds which act in the same way as the natural estrogen, progesterone and testosterone that is found in the body. Women are prescribed this medication to help restore the natural equilibrium of hormones in the body after the menopause, and to prevent symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal irritation. It may also be prescribed to post menopausal women to prevent osteoporosis, especially if other forms of treatment are not considered suitable.

How should I use Tibofem (Tibolone)?

Tibofem (Tibolone) tablets should be taken exactly as directed by the prescribing physician. You may be told to take one 2.5mg tablet per day. If you miss any doses, you should take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it has been more than 12 hours since you were meant to take it, you should then skip the dose altogether. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

What are the side effects of Tibofem (Tibolone)?

Side effects of Tibofem (Tibolone) include:

  • Bleeding or discharge from the vagina
  • Seborrheic dermatitis
  • An increase in weight
  • Discoloration of the skin on the face
