What is Alphamox (Amoxycillin) used for?

Alphamox (Amoxycillin) is a penicillin type antibiotic which is effective in treating a wide range of bacterial infections. It treats infections by preventing the bacteria from growing. It is sometimes given to patients with heart conditions prior to dental procedures to prevent a heart infection. Patients who have been exposed to anthrax are sometimes given this medication to prevent an anthrax infection.

How should I use Alphamox (Amoxycillin)?

Alphamox (Amoxycillin) capsules should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. You should drink plenty of fluids when taking this medication unless told otherwise by your physician. This medication is either taken twice per day at 12 hour intervals, or three times per day at 8 hour intervals. It is essential to continue taking this medication until you have completed the prescribed course, even if your symptoms appear to improve. Otherwise, the bacterial infection may return.

What are the side effects of Alphamox (Amoxycillin)?

Side effects of Alphamox (Amoxycillin) can include a stomach upset, nausea or diarrhea. Consult your physician immediately if you notice:
