What is Arkamin (Clonidine) used for?

Arkamin (Clonidine) is sometimes used on its own, and sometimes together with other drugs to reduce high blood pressure (hypertension). This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as centrally acting alpha-agonist hypotensive agents, and helps to reduce high blood pressure by decreasing the heart rate.

How should I use Arkamin (Clonidine)?

Arkamin (Clonidine) tablets should be taken orally, normally 2 to 3 times per day. This medication should be taken at evenly spaced intervals. Your physician may start you out on a low dosage, and gradually increase it. Do not abruptly stop taking this medication without consulting your physican. This may cause a rise in blood pressure and symptoms such as involuntary shaking. Your physician may instead decrease your dosage over 2 to 4 days.

What are the side effects of Arkamin (Clonidine)?

You should be aware that Arkamin (Clonidine) may cause some side effects, such as:

  • Dry mouth

If any of these side effects worsen, or if other more serious side effects occur, such as changes in mood, you should inform your physician as soon as possible.
