What is Bactrim DS (Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole) used for?

Bactrim DS (Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole) contains two active ingredients which work together to kill sensitive bacteria that causes infections. It is used to treat infections of the ear, bronchitis, infections affecting the urinary tract, traveler's diarrhea and pneumonia. This medication is an antibiotic. It will only treat bacterial infections, and not viral infections such as colds or flu.

How should I use Bactrim DS (Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole)?

Bactrim DS (Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole) tablets should be taken orally. This drug is sometimes take twice per day. However if you are treating severe lung infections, you may need to take it as much as 4 times per day. Your physician will inform you how much you need to take and how often. You must continue taking this medication until you have taken the entire prescribed amount.
