What is Benoquin Cream (Monobenzone) used for?

Benoquin Cream (Monobenzone) is used as a treatment for a condition known as vitiligo. This condition is characterized by white patches on the skin, and is caused by a loss of melanocyte. By depigmenting and removing the color from the normal skin surrounding the skin affected with vitiligo, this medication helps to even out the appearance and color of the skin.

How should I use Benoquin Cream (Monobenzone)?

Benoquin Cream (Monobenzone) should be applied directly to the affected area of the skin. You should apply a thin layer of this cream directly to normal colored skin. Adult patients are normally told to apply it 2 to 3 times per day. You should avoid exposing your skin to sunlight, as application of this cream will make the skin sensitive to sunlight. Patients should be aware that it can take up to 4 months of treatment with this cream before the benefits are noticed. Once you have achieved the skin color desired, your physician will usually direct you to only apply it as required to maintain the new skin's color, usually 2 times per week. However, if no improvement is noticed after 4 months of treatment, you should consult your physician.
