What is Benz Perals (Benzonatate USP) used for?

Benz Perals (Benzonatate USP) is used to treat coughing occurring as a result of the common cold and other breathing problems such as asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia. It is a type of non-narcotic cough medicine which works by numbing the lungs and throat, thereby reducing the reflex in the lungs that causes coughing.

How should I use Benz Perals (Benzonatate USP)?

Patients should swallow Benz Perals (Benzonatate USP) capsules whole, with a glass of water. Never chew or suck them. Patients are sometimes directed to take this medication 3 times per day, or as prescribed by a physician. Use of this medication in children is not recommended. Discuss all of the possible risks and benefits with your physician.

What are the side effects of Benz Perals (Benzonatate USP)?

Benz Perals (Benzonatate USP) may cause some side effects, including:

  • Sleepiness
  • Dizzy sensation
  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Nasal congestion
