What is Care-O-Pet (Carprofen) used for?

Care-O-Pet (Carprofen) contains the active ingredient carprofen, which is a type of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is given to older dogs to treat arthritis or joint deterioration. It is also used by vets to control pain and inflammation which may occur because of surgery on the dog.

How should I use Care-O-Pet (Carprofen)?

Care-O-Pet (Carprofen) is only to be given to dogs if a vet has examined the dog and deemed it necessary. These tablets should be given to the dog orally. Owners may mix the tablet with food if this makes the administration process easier. When this drug is used by vets to treat post surgery pain, it is given 2 hours before the procedure takes place. The exact dosage required depends on the dog's weight. The vet will inform you of the correct dosage to give your dog.

What are the side effects of Care-O-Pet (Carprofen)?

Some dogs that are given Care-O-Pet (Carprofen) may exhibit side effects. Keep a close eye on your dog. Some side effects to look out for include:

  • Different drinking or eating habits
  • Vomiting
  • Bloody stools or diarrhea
  • Agression, hyperactivity or seizures
  • Redness or irritation of the dog's skin

Please Note

This drug is for use in dogs only. It is not to be given to or used by humans as this may be unsafe.

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by the vet while using Care-O-Pet (Carprofen). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the dog and the condition it requires treatment for.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain dogs, it is essential that owners always inform the vet if their dog is pregnant or used for breeding, as well as if it has any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if you are giving it any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.

Immediately seek emergency veterinary care if you believe that your dog has an allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction in dogs include hives, swelling, skin rashes, pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallowing.
