What is Claratyne (Loratadine) used for?

Claratyne (Loratadine) is a type of antihistamine that is used to treat the symptoms of hay fever and other allergies, such as itchiness, runny nose, watery eyes and nasal congestion. This drug can also be used to relieve itching caused by hives and chronic skin reactions. It works by reducing the effects of the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine is responsible for producing the symptoms of allergies.

Patients should always consult their physician before using this medication so that the correct dosage can be prescribed to them. If your allergy symptoms do not improve after 3 days, or if your hives have not healed after 6 weeks, you should consult your physician immediately.
