What is Condyline Solution (Condylox) used for?

Condyline Solution (Condylox) is a treatment for genital warts occurring on the penis, or outside the vagina or anus. This solution is a type of antimitotic, which works by preventing the wart from growing, after which the wart will fall off. It may also be given to patients as a treatment for a skin infection known as molluscum contagiosum.

How should I use Condyline Solution (Condylox)?

Condyline Solution (Condylox) should only be applied to genital warts which have been identified by a physician, and not on warts surrounding the anus or on the mucous membranes, such as the rectum, or inside the body. This solution is normally used twice per day, once in the morning and again in the evening. Treatment is normally for 3 consecutive days, after which a 4 day break from treatment is taken. If the warts have not gone away, this 7 day cycle may be repeated for a maximum of 4 weeks in a row.

Before you apply this solution, you should wash the affected area with soap and water, and then dry it. Use the applicator provided to apply the solution. You should carefully place the solution on to a wart directly. Avoid getting it on healthy skin. If you apply the solution to the wrong place, you should wash it with soap and water. After applying it, you should allow the solution to dry.

What are the side effects of Condyline Solution (Condylox)?

Some side effects of Condyline Solution (Condylox) include:

  • Irritation, dryness or peeling of the skin
  • Blisters or swelling at the application site
  • Unpleasant odor from the skin
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Difficulty sleeping

You should wash off the medication immediately and inform your physician if you experience severe itchiness, bleeding or changes of the skin at the application site.
