What is Cyclopent (Cyclopentolate HCL BP) used for?

Cyclopent (Cyclopentolate HCL BP) is given to patients prior to undergoing eye examinations. These eye drops belong to a class of drugs known as anticholinergics. They work by dilating the pupil and relaxing the eye muscles in order to prepare for an eye examination. They may also be used to treat eye conditions such as iritis and uvetis.

How should I use Cyclopent (Cyclopentolate HCL BP)?

Cyclopent (Cyclopentolate HCL BP) eye drops are usually administered at a physician's office, 40 to 50 minutes prior to an eye examination or procedure. Your physician may direct you to administer the eye drops yourself, in which case you should tilt your head upwards, and lift out the lower eyelid. One drop may be administered to the lower eyelid. You should press gently on the corner of the eye, beside the nose, in order to prevent the medication from dripping out.

What are the side effects of Cyclopent (Cyclopentolate HCL BP)?

Patients using Cyclopent (Cyclopentolate HCL BP) eye drops may notice side effects, such as:

  • Redness or irritation of the eye
  • Blurred vision
  • Inflammation of the eyelids

Patients should consult or notify their physician immediately if they experience more serious side effects, such as dizziness, eye pressure, eye discharge, a rapid heartbeat, changes in behavior or hallucinations.
