What is Cytomid (Flutamide) used for?

Cytomid (Flutamide) is used to treat prostate cancer. This drug may be used together with other medications. It belongs to a class of medications known as antiandrogens, which work by inhibiting the effects of a male hormone known as androgen, thereby helping to stop the growth and advance of cancerous cells.

How should I use Cytomid (Flutamide)?

Cytomid (Flutamide) tablets should be taken orally, and may be taken with or without food. Adult patients are sometimes directed one tablet 3 times per day, at 8 hour intervals, unless directed otherwise by their physician. It is important to continue taking this medication as prescribed, and you should never discontinue taking it unless you have been directed to do so by your physician. Patients should only use this medication if their physician has directed them to do so.

What are the side effects of Cytomid (Flutamide)?

Cytomid (Flutamide) may occasionally cause some side effects to occur, such as:

  • Hot flushes
  • Diarrhea, nausea or vomiting
  • An increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  • A decrease in sexual ability
  • Enlarged male breasts
  • Bloody urine

Patients should immediately consult their physician if any of these side effects persist, or if other more serious side effects occur, such as changes in mood, lumps on the breast, severe fatigue, a rapid heartbeat or breathlessness.
