What is Desowen (Desonide) used for?

Desowen (Desonide) is a topical treatment which is commonly used in the treatment of a variety of skin conditions, such as dermatitis, allergies, eczema and other conditions affecting the skin. This treatment is effective in helping to reduce inflammation caused by these conditions, while also helping to treat itching and redness. The active ingredient in this product is a type of corticosteroid medication.

How should I use Desowen (Desonide)?

Patients who have been prescribed Desowen (Desonide) cream or lotion should apply it directly to the affected area, and gently rub it in, usually 2 to 3 times per day, or as directed by their physician. You should avoid covering the affected area, unless specifically instructed to do so by your physician. Immediately inform your physician if your condition does not improve after 2 weeks.

What are the side effects of Desowen (Desonide)?

Desowen (Desonide) may cause some side effects which may be noticed where the medication is applied, such as:

  • Irritation
  • Peeling or dryness of the skin
  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Stinging or burning sensation

If any of these side effects persist or worsen, or if you notice other more serious side effects, such as oozing, severe inflammation, signs of skin infection or any other symptoms, you should consult your physician immediately.
