What is Ethasyl (Etamsylate) used for?

Ethasyl (Etamsylate) is a type of hemostatic agent, which is used to reduce loss of blood caused by heavy menstrual bleeding or other conditions. This medication works by helping blood cells, or platelets to clump together and clot, while also decreasing bleeding from blood vessels known as capillaries. This can help to reduce heavy menstrual bleeding.

How should I use Ethasyl (Etamsylate)?

Ethasyl (Etamsylate) tablets are taken orally, with food. Your physician may direct you to take 250mg to 500mg, 1 to 4 times per day. However, you must arrange to see your physician prior to taking this drug, in order for the correct dosage to be prescribed. This medication should be used only at the onset of menstrual bleeding, and should not be used before the menstrual bleeding starts.
