What is Gardasil (Vaccine) used for?

Gardasil (Quadrivalent HPV (Type 6,11,16,18) Recombinant vaccine) is a vaccine used to prevent diseases caused by human papillomavirus types 6, 11, 16 and 18. Diseases which can be caused by human papillomavirus include genital warts, cervical cancer and cancer of the vulva or vagina. This vaccine will only protect against the types of HPV in the vaccine, and will not protect against other types of HPV.

How should I use Gardasil (Vaccine)?

Gardasil (Quadrivalent HPV (Type 6,11,16,18) Recombinant vaccine) is administered by a physician or other health care professional, at a clinic or other health care facility. This vaccine is usually given as 3 separate doses. The second dose may be given 1 to 2 months after the first dose, and the third dose is usually given 6 months after the first dose. Your physician will tell you when you need to receive each dose, and will set an appointment for you to receive the vaccine.

What are the side effects of Gardasil (Vaccine)?

Gardasil (Quadrivalent HPV (Type 6,11,16,18) Recombinant vaccine) may cause side effects, such as:

  • Swelling, redness or pain at the injection site
  • Fever, headache or dizziness
  • Insomnia
  • Nasal congestion or a sore throat
  • Muscular pain
