What is Genticyn (Gentamicin) used for?

Genticyn Eye Drops (Gentamicin) are used to treat bacterial infections of the eye and eyelids, such as conjunctivitis and blephartis. It may also be used to prevent post surgery infections of the eyes. This medication is a type of aminoglycoside antibiotic, which works by killing the bacteria responsible for causing the infection. However, these eye drops will only work for bacterial eye infections, and not other types of infections.

How should I use Genticyn (Gentamicin)?

Genticyn Eye Drops (Gentamicin) are applied directly to the eyes. Patients should tilt their head, look upwards, and pull down the lower eyelid so that the eye drops can be applied. Always consult your physician before using this medication so that the correct amount can be prescribed. Patients who stop using this medication prematurely may experience a return of the infection. Therefore, it is essential to use this medication for the entire period for which it has been prescribed.

What are the side effects of Genticyn (Gentamicin)?
