What is Intazide (Balsalazide) used for?

Intazide (Balsalazide) inhibits the actions of the chemicals in the body which cause inflammation of the colon. It is used to treat ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. This drug is effective in relieving symptoms such as bleeding of the rectum, stomach pain and diarrhea.

How should I use Intazide (Balsalazide)?

Intazide (Balsalazide) tablets should be taken by mouth, and swallowed whole with a glass of water. You should follow the instructions of your physician, and only take the amount prescribed to you. Adult patients are sometimes told to take this drug 3 times per day. It is normally taken for a period of 8 weeks, however, your physician may tell you to take it for a longer period of time, sometimes as long as 12 weeks. Follow all instructions provided to you by your physician.

What are the side effects of Intazide (Balsalazide)?

Side effects of Intazide (Balsalazide) include:
