What is Mesacol (Mesalamine USP) used for?

Mesacol (Mesalamine USP) is prescribed to treat ulcerative colitis. It can help to reduce symptoms of this disease, such as diarrhea, pain in the stomach and rectal bleeding occurring as a result of inflammation of the colon. This medication is a type of aminosalicylate anti-inflammatory drug which works by preventing the body from producing a chemical which may cause inflammation, damage to tissue or diarrhea. It may also be used to treat Crohn's disease.

How should I use Mesacol (Mesalamine USP)?

Mesacol (Mesalamine USP) tablets should be taken orally, and you may take them with or without food. Your physician may tell you to take it 3 times per day. However, the dosage may vary for each patient depending on the condition being treated. You should only take the amount that your physician has prescribed.

What are the side effects of Mesacol (Mesalamine USP)?
