What is Minidiab (Glipizide) used for?

Minidiab (Glipizide) is prescribed alongside diet and exercise regimes to help treat type 2 diabetes. With type 2 diabetes, the body is unable to control the amount of sugar in the blood. This medication helps to lower the blood sugar by causing the pancreas to produce more insulin, thereby helping to control the blood sugar levels.

Please note that this medication is not to be used to treat type-1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How should I use Minidiab (Glipizide)?

Minidiab (Glipizide) tablets should usually be taken 30 minutes before meals. If your physician has directed you to take this medication once daily, it should be taken before breakfast. Patients taking higher doses may sometimes be directed to take this drug twice per day. Always see your physician before taking this medication so that the correct dosage required to treat your condition can be prescribed.

What are the side effects of Minidiab (Glipizide)?

Some side effects have been reported by patients taking Minidiab (Glipizide). these have included weight gain, loss of appetite, nausea and dizziness.

Consult your physician immediately if you notice any of the following more serious side effects:

  • Severe nausea and vomiting
  • Swollen limbs
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (otherwise known as jaundice)
  • Symptoms of high blood sugar such as increased urination, flushing or drowsiness
  • Low blood sugar (symptoms include fever, rapid heartbeat and fainting)
