What is Mucopain Gel (Benzocaine) used for?

Mucopain Gel (Benzocaine) is a topical gel which is used to treat mouth ulcers and alleviate the pain caused by them. It contains the active ingredient benzocaine, a local anesthetic that works by blocking the nerve signals sent by your body. By blocking the nerve signals, this gel helps to numb the local area to which it is applied, making it ideal for treating mouth ulcers.

How should I use Mucopain Gel (Benzocaine)?

Mucopain Gel (Benzocaine) is applied directly to the mouth ulcer. Due to the gel's anesthetic properties, you should take care not to use too much gel and only to apply it to the ulcer. Patients should consult their physician before using this medication, in order to determine the frequency at which they should apply the gel.

What are the side effects of Mucopain Gel (Benzocaine)?

Some patients using Mucopain Gel (Benzocaine) have experienced mild stinging or burning where the cream has been applied. You should see a physician immediately if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects:

  • Severe stinging where the gel was applied
  • Blistering or any other signs of infection
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Difficulty breathing

In extremely rare cases this medication has been known to cause the oxygen levels of the blood to become dangerously low, a condition known as methemoglobinemia. Should you notice an increased heart rate, shortness of breath, and/or blue or gray colored skin or fingernails, you should seek emergency medical attention.

Please Note

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Mucopain Gel (Benzocaine). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain patients, it is essential you always inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions (especially asthma or heart disease), and if you are taking any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.

Immediately seek emergency medical care if you have an allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallow.
