What is Nimodip (Nimodipine) used for?

Nimodip (Nimodipine) is given to patients to prevent damage to the brain occurring as a result of an aneurysm, a ruptured blood vessel (also known as a hemorrhage). This medicine is a type of calcium channel blocker, which relaxes and widens the blood vessels, thereby improving the flow of blood to damaged or injured brain tissue. Some patients may use this drug to treat migraine headaches.

How should I use Nimodip (Nimodipine)?

Nimodip (Nimodipine) tablets should be taken on an empty stomach. Be sure to take them at least 1 hour before meals. It is also possible to take them 2 hours after eating. This medication is usually given to patients within 4 days of a brain hemorrhage occurring. It is normally taken once every 4 hours for 21 days or as directed by the prescribing physician. Always follow all instructions provided to you by your physician.
