What is Pentasa (Mesalazine) used for?

Pentasa (Mesalazine), an anti-inflammatory 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA), is predominately prescribed as treatment for ulcerative colitis (inflamed digestive tract), mild-moderate Crohn's disease, and other inflammatory bowel conditions. It can also help to maintain distal ulcerative colitis in remission. This medication also contains added antioxidant properties and numerous other health benefits for patients suffering from conditions such as those listed above.

How should I use Pentasa (Mesalazine)?

The usual adult dose for Pentasa (Mesalazine) is 4 - 16 tablets per day depending on their condition. Dosing should be spread out throughout the day and taken according to your doctor's instructions. Keep all appointments you have with your doctor to monitor your condition and response whilst taking this medication. Your dose may need to be adjusted from time to time. This is a long term treatment and should be taken at the same time each day to maximize its effectiveness.
