What is Permite Cream (Permethrin) used for?

Permite Cream (Permethrin) is used as a treatment for scabies, which is caused by tiny mites that attach themselves to the skin and cause irritation. It is also used for treatment of head lice. The active ingredient in this cream belongs to a class of medications known as aspyrethrins, which work by disabling and killing the tiny mites and the eggs that they lay.

How should I use Permite Cream (Permethrin)?

Permite Cream (Permethrin) should be used externally, on the skin and should not be applied anywhere else on the body. You should begin to use it as it is prescribed. This medication is normally applied from the head to the soles of the feet, and even under the nails and between the toes, or as directed by a physician. The cream should be washed off 8 to 14 hours after taking a bath. Patients should note that dead mites may still cause itchiness for up to 4 weeks after treatment. Your physician may prescribe other medications to relieve the itchiness. If your condition does not improve after 2 weeks of treatment, you should inform your physician.

What are the side effects of Permite Cream (Permethrin)?

Permite Cream (Permethrin) may cause some side effects when it is applied to the skin, such as:

  • Irritation of the skin
  • Itchiness
  • Inflammation of the skin at the application site
  • Redness
  • Numbness

Even though these side effects are not considered to be serious, it is essential that you consult your physician immediately if they persist or worsen.

Please Note

Patients should note that excessive scratching of the skin and scalp may cause infections of the skin. Consult your physician immediately if you notice signs of a skin infection.

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Permite Cream (Permethrin). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain patients, it is essential you always inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if you are taking any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.
