What is Risofos (Risedronate) used for?

Risofos (Risedronate) is used to prevent or treat bone conditions such as osteoporosis or Paget's disease in men and women. It belongs to a class of drugs known as bisphosphonates, which work by slowing the loss of bone while also increasing the mass of bones, thereby helping to prevent fractures.

How should I use Risofos (Risedronate)?

The dosage for Risofos (Risedronate) varies, depending on the condition being treated. The 150mg tablets are normally taken once per month in the morning whereas the 35mg tablets are usually taken once per week in the morning. However, you should always take them on the same day each time. The tablets should be swallowed whole, with a full glass of water, and you should stay upright, either standing or walking, for 30 minutes after taking it. Do not eat or drink, except for water, for at least 30 minutes after taking the tablets.

What are the side effects of Risofos (Risedronate)?

When taking Risofos (Risedronate) tablets, you may experience side effects, such as:

  • Belching
  • Dry mouth
  • Frequent urination
  • Cramps in the legs or back pain
  • Flu symptoms
