What is Ropin (Ropinirole HCL) used for?

Ropin (Ropinirole HCL) is used either on its own or in combination with other drugs as a treatment for Parkinson's disease symptoms, such as tremors and spasms, and may also be used to treat restless leg syndrome. This drug is in a class of medications known as dopamine agonists, which help to restore the natural balance in the brain of dopamine.

How should I use Ropin (Ropinirole HCL)?

Ropin (Ropinirole HCL) tablets should be taken by mouth. The dosage depends on the condition being treated, and the patient's medical history. Some patients treating Parkinson's disease may be told to take it 3 times per day. However, in order to reduce side effects, your physician may start you out on a low dose. Adults treating restless leg syndrome may be told to take it once per day, usually 1 to 3 hours before going to bed.

What are the side effects of Ropin (Ropinirole HCL)?

Ropin (Ropinirole HCL) may cause:

  • Indigestion
  • Flushing
  • Back pain
  • Uncontrolled body movements
  • Difficulty maintaining or achieving an erection

This medication may in rare cases cause patients to suddenly fall asleep. Discuss the risks of this with your physician before taking this medication.
