What is Sofracort Eye Drops (Framycetin Sulphate IP) used for?

Sofracort Eye Drops (Framycetin Sulphate IP) is prescribed to patients suffering from bacterial eye infections. The medication prevents reproduction and growth of the bacteria to eliminate the cells and relieve the associated symptoms. These can include irritation, discharge, crusting, or pain in the eye. Your physician may also prescribe the medication to treat other unlisted conditions according to his or her judgment.

How should I use Sofracort Eye Drops (Framycetin Sulphate IP)?

Sofracort Eye Drops (Framycetin Sulphate IP) is typically prescribed to be taken between one to three times each day for a course of medication lasting one to two weeks in length. Always take this medication consistently, as not doing so may result in a relapse of symptoms that are more intense and resistant to medication.

Before applying the solution, prepare the bottle for application by removing the metal seal and attaching the supplied cap to the top. Pull down the lower lid of the eye to be treated, remove the cover from the top of the medication, and dispense one drop into the eye. Slowly close the eye and keep it closed for several minutes to spread the medication and allow it to be absorbed into the eye. If another application is required, wait at least ten minutes between doses. Prevent the medicine from becoming contaminated by not allowing the applicator to touch any foreign surfaces, including your eye. Also observe the solution before each application to ensure it is not discolored, cloudy, or have any suspended particles in it. If this occurs, dispose of the bottle and contact your physician immediately.

Your physician may instruct you to attend regular appointments while using the medication so that your response to treatment and symptoms can be monitored. It may be necessary to change your prescription and alter the dosage and frequency of administration until the best results are found. Be sure to ask your physician or pharmacist if you have any questions about the medication to ensure the correct application.

What are the side effects of Sofracort Eye Drops (Framycetin Sulphate IP)?

  • Irritation or itching of the eye
  • Temporarily blurred vision
  • Inflammation or burning of the eyes
