What is Strattera (Atomoxetine HCL) used for?

Strattera (Atomoxetine Hydrochloride) is used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan to help reduce the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This drug is prescribed to help increase a person's ability to concentrate, to remain focused and stop fidgeting. It increases the levels of a natural substance in the brain called norepinephrine, which is required to control behavior.

How should I use Strattera (Atomoxetine HCL)?

Strattera (Atomoxetine Hydrochloride) capsules should be taken orally. The exact dosage required will vary for each patient, depending on the severity of the condition requiring treatment. Therefore, it is essential to consult a physician so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. Some patients may be told to take this medication 1 to 2 times per day. If taken with food, the risk of a stomach upset is reduced. Most patients are told by their physician to start out on a low dose, which may be increased after 3 days. The dosage may then be increased after 2 to 4 weeks of treatment. It may take up to 1 month for the full benefits of this drug to be noticed.
