What is Thaloda (Thalidomide) used for?

Thaloda (Thalidomide) is used as a preventative measure against skin sores or other skin conditions related to leprosy (also known as Hansen's disease). This drug may also be used together with other drugs as a treatment for a type of bone marrow cancer known as multiple myeloma. The active ingredient in this drug is a type of immunomodulator, which can treat Hansen's disease by reducing inflammation and redness. It can also reduce the formation of blood vessels responsible for feeding tumors.

How should I use Thaloda (Thalidomide)?

If you have been prescribed Thaloda (Thalidomide) capsules, your physician will decide the correct dosage required to treat your condition. You may be told to take this medication once per day, just before going to bed, at least 1 hour after your evening meal. However, your physician may direct you to take it more than once per day. Follow all instructions provided to you by your physician, and tell him or her if there is no improvement in your condition after 2 weeks.

What are the side effects of Thaloda (Thalidomide)?

Thaloda (Thalidomide) may cause:

  • Drowsiness or dizziness
  • Anxiety
  • Pain in the muscles, joints or back
  • Dry skin
  • Changes in appetite

In some cases, this drug may cause nerve damage that may be permanent. If you notice tingling, numbness or a burning sensation in the hands or feet, this could be a sign that this drug has affected your nervous system, and you should immediately consult your physician.

Please Note

This medication should never be taken by women who are pregnant, or who could become pregnant. Discuss the use of reliable contraception before, during and after treatment with your physician before using this medication.

During and for a period of time after treatment, male patients taking this medication should use a latex condom or avoid all sexual contact with women who could become pregnant, as this drug is present in the semen. Male patients should also avoid donating sperm. Discuss this with your physician before taking this drug.

Breast feeding is not recommended while taking this medication.

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Thaloda (Thalidomide). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain patients, it is essential you always inform your physician if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if you are taking any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.

Immediately seek emergency medical care if you have any allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallowing.
