What is Dsorolen (Trioxsalen) used for?

Dsorolen (Trioxsalen) is in a class of drugs known as psoralens. This medication is used as part of a treatment known as psoralen plus ultraviolet light A, or PUVA. This treatment involves taking medication and controlled, supervised exposure to ultraviolet light. It is used to treat a condition known as vitiligo, a disease that causes the loss of skin color. Other conditions this drug is used to treat include psoriasis, eczema and other skin conditions.

How should I use Dsorolen (Trioxsalen)?

The dosage for Dsorolen (Trioxsalen) varies, depending on the condition being treated. If it is being used as part of a medically supervised PUVA treatment, your physician will tell you the dose required. Adults treating vitiligo are sometimes directed to take 20mg to 40mg, 2 to 4 hours prior to undergoing PUVA treatment. Your physician may require you to undergo this treatment 2 to 3 times per week, however, the treatments are normally spaced at 48 hour intervals. Follow all instructions provided to you by your physician.
