What is Voltaren Emulgel (Diclofenac Sodium) used for?

Voltaren Emulgel (Diclofenac Sodium) is used in the treatment of joint pain, such as that occurring in the wrists, hands, knees, elbows, feet or ankles, caused by osteoarthritis. However, it may not be effective in treating pain occurring in other parts of the body. This gel is a type of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, which works by stopping the production of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain.

How should I use Voltaren Emulgel (Diclofenac Sodium)?

Voltaren Emulgel (Diclofenac Sodium) is applied to the skin directly. Patients should gently rub the gel into the affected joint or area. Adult patients are sometimes directed to apply it 4 times daily, however this may vary, depending on the severity of the condition being treated. Patients should always consult their physician before taking this medication so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. Always follow the instructions of your physician, and never apply more than prescribed.

What are the side effects of Voltaren Emulgel (Diclofenac Sodium)?

Some side effects may occur as a result of using Voltaren Emulgel (Diclofenac Sodium), such as:

  • Dizziness
  • Nausea, stomach pain or diarrhea
  • Dryness, itchiness or redness at the application site
  • Inflammation at the application site
