It is normally given together with a low calorie diet as a treatment for obesity, especially in patients with other conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure. This drug belongs to a class of medications known as lipase inhibitors, which work by preventing the fat in the food eaten by the patient from being absorbed, and instead allowing the fat to be removed in the stool.

How should I use Vyfat (Orlistat)?

Vyfat (Orlistat) capsules should be taken exactly as prescribed by your physician. You may be told to take it 3 times per day, together with each meal that contains some fat. It may be taken during a meal. However, you may also take it up to 1 hour after eating. If you miss a meal, or if your meal does not contain fat, it is possible to skip your dose.
