What is Zyprexa Wafers (Olanzapine) used for?

Zyprexa Wafers (Olanzapine) are used to treat bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. It may also be used in combination with other drugs to treat depression and to treat nausea and vomiting occurring as a result of cancer treatment. This drug works by restoring the natural balance in the brain of certain chemicals, known as neurotransmitters, which in turn may help to treat the symptoms of mental conditions.

Research has suggested that this drug may also be beneficial in treating eating disorders such as anorexia, Tourette's syndrome, and anxiety related mental disorders. However, it has not yet been conclusively proven whether or not this drug is fully effective in treating these conditions.

How should I use Zyprexa Wafers (Olanzapine)?

Zyprexa Wafers (Olanzapine) come in the form of soluble wafers, which are placed in the mouth and allowed to dissolve. Adult patients may be instructed to take this medication once daily, however patients should always consult their physician before taking this medication so that the correct dosage can be prescribed.
