What is Caverject Impulse (Alprostadil) used for?

This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as vasodilators, which work by helping the blood vessels and muscles in the penis to relax, thereby helping to increase blood flow into the penis and causing an erection.

How should I use Caverject Impulse (Alprostadil)?

Caverject Impulse (Alprostadil) is administered by directly injecting it into the penis. In order to determine the correct dose, patients should consult their physician. Your physician will determine the correct dose at his or her office, and will also give instructions on how to properly inject it. Patients should expect to notice an erection 5 to 20 minutes after administering the injection, and the erection should usually last no longer than 1 hour. Patients should not use this medication more than 3 times per week, with at least a 24 hour interval between each usage.

What are the side effects of Caverject Impulse (Alprostadil)?

Caverject Impulse (Alprostadil) may cause some side effects, such as:

• Penile pain
• Unusual discharge from the penis
• Itching, numbness or warmth of the penis
• Back pain
• Cold or flu symptoms

Patients should consult their physician if any of these side effects become bothersome, or if other side effects occur, such as ecchymosis or hematoma at the injection site, difficulty urinating, bloody urine, severe, persistent pain of the urethra or penis, feelings of lightheadedness or a painful erection lasting more than 4 hours.
