What is Loxamine (Paroxetine HCL) used for?

Loxamine (Paroxetine HCL) is used to treat a wide range of conditions, such as depression, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder. It can also be used to treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder. This drug belongs to a class of medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which work by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, which in turn helps to maintain mental balance.

How should I use Loxamine (Paroxetine HCL)?

Loxamine (Paroxetine HCL) tablets should be taken orally by the patient. Adult patients may be directed to take this medication once daily, in the morning or at night. If this medication is being taken for premenstrual dysphoric disorder, your physician may direct you to take it every day of the month, or else for the two weeks before your period. However, the exact dosage varies, depending on the severity of the condition being treated and patients should always consult their physician before taking this medication so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. Patients should never exceed the dosage prescribed to them.

What are the side effects of Loxamine (Paroxetine HCL)?

Some side effects which have been reported by patients taking Loxamine (Paroxetine HCL) include:

Patients should consult their physician immediately if any of these side effects persist or worsen, or if they notice severe mood changes, suicidal thoughts, shakiness, changes in vision, bruising and bleeding, seizures or a fast irregular heartbeat.
