What is Neotigason (Acitretin) used for?

Neotigason (Acitretin) is used to treat various skin conditions, including psoriasis, and other conditions. This helps to reduce scaling of the skin, thickening of the skin, and also decreases the amount of plaque formed.

How should I use Neotigason (Acitretin)?

Neotigason (Acitretin) comes in the form of capsules, which should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. This drug is only used to treat severe skin conditions when treatment with other medications has proven unsuccessful. You will most likely be under the supervision of a dermatologist while undergoing treatment with this drug. When you start taking this drug, you may be told to take it for 2 to 4 weeks. After this initial period of treatment, your physician may need to alter your dose, depending on how you respond to treatment. You may be told to take it for another 6 to 8 weeks. Follow all instructions provided to you by your physician.

What are the side effects of Neotigason (Acitretin)?

Some possible side effects which may occur as a result of taking Neotigason (Acitretin) include:

• Itchy sensation or irritation affecting the skin
• Fingernails or toenails that are weaker than normal
• Hair loss
• Infected sinuses

It is known that a small quantity of this drug will be present in the semen of male patients who take this drug. Although it is not known whether or not it will cause birth defects, male patients are advised to discuss the risk of this with their physician before taking this medication.

You should not donate blood for 3 years after you take this drug. Female patients should also avoid breastfeeding for 3 years after finishing treatment with this medication.
